KL Rahul has been deemed fit to captain India in the One-Day Internationals against Zimbabwe

The Board of Control has granted KL Rahul the all-clear for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the forthcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe. The BCCI also stated that the player would take over as captain from Shikhar Dhawan, who had earlier been named to lead the team on the Zimbabwe trip.

Rahul was nominated to India’s team for the recent five-match T20I series against the West Indies, however, he was unable to complete the trip due to a positive Covid-19 test. He missed India’s last five-match home series against South Africa due to a groin issue. As a result, he missed all of India’s games against Ireland and England.

Rahul’s injuries and conditioning issues have kept him out of India’s 22 international appearances since the end of the Indian Premier League 2022. He last competed for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2022 in May, and he hasn’t played international cricket since February 2022.

The 30-year-old opener has already been included in India’s 2022 Asia Cup roster. It was previously assumed that he would join the Zimbabwe trip to restore match fitness before the commencement of the Asia Cup. Still, the batter himself turned to social media to clarify the matter.

The updated squad is as follows – KL Rahul (c) Shikhar Dhawan (vc), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
