Aakash Chopra believes Virat Kohli should have played ODIs or T20Is against West Indies

Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra is perplexed by Team India’s choice to rest former skipper Virat Kohli during the team’s trip to the West Indies. Chopra feels that additional game time prior to the Asia Cup would have been tremendously useful for the 33-year-old, who has been struggling recently.

The 44-year-old stressed the importance of being in the game’s rhythm at all times, which has enabled players like Suryakumar Yadav to adjust to the needs of the hour. The Indian team has adopted an offensive style of play in which players try for huge shots from the outset, and Kohli’s absence would not help him adjust to it.

Chopra feels Suryakumar Yadav should be relegated to No. 4 for key tournaments like the forthcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. He believes Yadav is ready to confront the bowlers in the middle overs with a game designed for him. Chopra is perplexed as to why management altered their minds and promoted him to the opening slot.

Furthermore, Aakash Chopra believes that the squad announced for the Asia Cup would be almost the same as the one that participates in the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. The 44-year-old wants Team India to have a steady batting order with defined duties for each player.
