3 Instances where Indian Players were spotted wearing their teammates’ jerseys

It takes a lot of work, effort, passion, commitment, and desire to acquire the renowned India jersey, which satisfies a player’s ambition of representing the country at the highest level and goes on to perform miracles sporting it with their names and numbers emblazoned on the back. While it is an honor for any Indian cricketer to regularly play while wearing the national team’s shirt, there have been moments when they have borrowed their teammate’s jersey due to unforeseen circumstances.

Several Indian players have been seen wearing jerseys with the names and numbers of their colleagues in recent years, most notably during the present limited-overs series against the West Indies. Surprisingly, three players were seen wearing a similar shirt during the second T20I. Without further ado, here are three Instances when Indian players donned their teammate’s jersey on the field.

Sourav Ganguly was a seasoned player who had led Indian cricket to high heights as captain until a falling out with former Indian team coach Greg Chappell resulted in his dismissal from the national team, following which he made a triumphant return.

Nonetheless, during the 2007 ODI series against the West Indies, even the reigning The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president was forced to wear Suresh Raina’s shirt. In the first two games of the four-match series, Ganguly donned Raina’s shirt.

This was due to the fact that the ex-skipper had not gotten a jersey in his size.

Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have been pals since they were young cricketers. The pair has been a part of several notable victories for India and CSK. Raina opted to retire on the same day, less than an hour after Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2o20.

Meanwhile, Raina was photographed donning the iconic skipper’s shirt during the January 2015 Sydney Test match. This was done to pay respect to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who abruptly announced his retirement from red-ball cricket following the Boxing Day Test match at the MCG on December 30, 2014.

The SCG Test match also happened to be Suresh Raina’s last outing for India in whites.

This event occurred last week during India’s second One Day International against the West Indies. Deepak Hooda, a batting all-rounder, was observed wearing Prasidh Krishna’s shirt during the match. Prasidh’s jersey number is 24, for those who are unaware.

Hooda, who was wearing a borrowed jersey for this game, had the number 24 printed beneath it, while Prasidh Krishna’s name was obscured by tape.

The specific reason for Hooda donning Krishna’s shirt is unclear, and no official confirmation has been obtained.
