Sanju Samson has been named to India’s T20I squad in lieu of KL Rahul

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Sanju Samson as KL Rahul’s replacement in the T20I team to play the West Indies in five T20Is beginning on Friday, July 29th. The series opener was supposed to join the squad after recuperating from surgery, but he is unable to do so owing to Covid-19.

There was some uncertainty earlier in the day when Sanju Samson was named to the team without any official notification from the BCCI, but in the most recent update, it has been confirmed that Samson would replace Rahul in the squad.

Samson, who played for India in the last three-match ODI series, was originally kept out of the T20I series. Samson earned his first T20I half-century against Ireland last month and made the most of his chance in the ODI series against the West Indies, scoring his first ODI fifty.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul, who had a productive IPL 2022 season, was left out of the T20I series against South Africa owing to an injury and subsequently had sports hernia surgery in Germany. Rahul, one of India’s most important players, has been out since the IPL 2022.

Before traveling to the island country, the ace opener began his recovery at the NCA in Bengaluru and looked in fantastic form. However, soon before leaving the country, he tested positive for Covid-19.

Although the Karnataka player has finished his seclusion time, the BCCI’s medical panel has urged him to relax and recuperate for another week. He will most likely play in the ODI series against Zimbabwe ahead of the Asia Cup in the UAE later next month.
