In a significant piece of Mumbai cricket news, local celebrities such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Dilip Vengsarkar may lose their voting rights in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Members of the MCA have summoned a special general body meeting for July 29 (Friday) to eliminate international cricketers’ voting rights and amend the MCA’s constitution.
In its proposal, the MCA states that no individual member, even patron or contributor members, has voting rights. Only international cricketers should be awarded membership in the organization, according to the Lodha Committee’s guidelines. Giving them voting rights would equate to changing the applicant Association’s foundation.
According to the Supreme Court’s directions based on the Lodha Committee’s recommendations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was required to amend its constitution and provide voting rights to all former international players in their respective organizations. Similarly, the Supreme Court has forbidden anybody beyond the age of 70 from holding a post.
