The board of directors has named former England batter Jonathan Trott the new head coach of the Afghanistan Men’s team. He will take command during Afghanistan’s August visit to Ireland.
Trott, 41, has previously worked with the England Men’s squad, England Lions, and the U19 sides, as well as Scotland as a batting consultant for the 2021 T20 World Cup. He announced his retirement from the game in 2018.
Trott’s compatriot Graham Gooch was initially slated to take over as head coach. However, the former England cricketer became unwell in May of this year and could not keep his appointment.
Afghanistan’s trip to Ireland consisted of five Twenty20 Internationals, beginning on August 9 in Belfast.
