Greg Chappell wishes to have David Warner’s leadership ban lifted

Former Australia captain Greg Chappell believes David Warner’s leadership ban should be lifted. It should be noted that Cricket Australia (CA) barred Warner and Steve Smith from leadership positions following the infamous ball-tampering affair in a game against South Africa in 2018. While Smith’s suspension was overturned two years after the incident, Warner’s leadership restriction remains in effect indefinitely.

At the moment, Australia’s Test captain is express pacer Pat Cummins, while Aaron Finch captains the white-ball side. Meanwhile, Chappell has stressed that Warner has completed his sentence and that he is a fine leader who can lead the national team successfully.

Warner has previous captaincy experience, having previously led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 2016, the left-handed batter guided SRH to their first triumph after defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a gripping final.

In terms of international statistics, Warner has played 133 One-Day Internationals and scored 5610 runs. Warner appeared in 91 T20Is and scored 2684 runs. Warner has done well not only in limited-over games but also in the game’s longest format. So far, the 35-year-old has 7817 runs at an average of 46.53 in 96 matches.
