Marcus Stoinis and Ashton Agar have been ruled out of the ODI series due to injuries
Australia defeated Sri Lanka in the inaugural One-Day International (ODI) at Pallekelle, thanks to heroics from ace all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. However, in yet another blow to their injury-plagued team, batting all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out for the remainder of the series due to a side strain. Spinner Ashton Agar has also been ruled out after suffering a similar injury in the first ODI.
Notably, the Aussies were already missing Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, and Sean Abbott, and now Stoinis and Agar have joined the injured. Travis Head and Matthew Kuhnemann will join the ODI squad, which is currently competing in a four-day tournament in Hambantota as Australia A. In the midst of the injury crisis, experienced pacer Pat Cummins commented on the squad’s current depth, and he believes the Men in Yellow still have plenty of choices.
Notably, Stoinis scored a 31-ball 44 in the series opener, and Agar was a standout with the ball, taking two wickets in ten overs and giving 49 runs.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has remarked on the national team’s injury woes, stating that they would be keeping a close check on the squad that will play in the ODI series and will decide whether any changes are required for the subsequent two-match Test series.
