Despite losing the series opener, Bhuvneshwar Kumar backs Rishabh Pant to come good

Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has backed skipper Rishabh Pant after the Indian bowling line-up failed to live up to expectations in the opening T20I on June 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The Indian bowlers had a stranglehold on the South African batters after dismissing their top-order in their huge chase of 212, but they lost the plot after that as the middle-order duo of David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen counter-attacked to win by seven wickets.

At the same time, the veteran pacer made it plain that despite an awful day in the series opener, the bowlers would come back strong in the next game. He further stated that if India had won the Delhi game, Pant would have been recognized for his great decision-making strategies.

Pant was forced to take over as skipper at the last minute as KL Rahul was ruled out with a groin injury. Pant has led the Delhi Capitals in the IPL for two seasons, but this was his first time leading India in any format.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue are fielding a second-string lineup due to workload management, as key players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested. The hosts would be anxious to even the series by winning the second T20I on June 12 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
