Gautam Gambhir lauds Avesh Khan; advises him to focus on the international stage

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer, lauded Avesh Khan’s performance against South Africa in the first T20I match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Despite amassing 211 runs while batting first, India lost by a large margin of seven wickets. The bowlers battled to keep their economy rate under control and only managed three wickets.

Meanwhile, Avesh, 25, gave up 15 runs in his opening over but recovered well, giving only 20 runs in his following three overs. He did not take any wickets, although he was the only Indian bowler with an economy rate of less than nine. After this defeat, Indian bowlers faced a barrage of criticism for failing to defend a huge total. Gambhir, Avesh’s coach of Lucknow Super Giants, has commended the bowler for bowling challenging overs (2, 10, 14, 16). He also urged him to seek for success at the greatest level rather than just the IPL.

Avesh has now played three Twenty20 Internationals for India, taking two wickets at an economy rate of more than eight runs per over. Clearly, he hasn’t made the best first impression. He batted first, ahead of uncapped seamers like Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh, and has to improve as the T20 World Cup approaches. In Australia, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mohammed Shami are expected to constitute the pace trio, with heated competition for backup seam alternatives. Mohsin Khan, another LSG speedster, could be one of them.

Mohsin wowed everyone in his first IPL season with his quickness and control of the ball. The left-arm pacer got 14 wickets in nine matches and had the greatest economy rate of any pacer in the IPL 2022. According to Gambhir, the addition of Mohsin to his squad spurred Avesh to play better.
