Rassie van der Dussen attributes South Africa’s historic victory in the first T20I to the IPL
South Africa chased down a record-breaking 212 in front of a raucous Delhi crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday, June 9th. South Africa’s heroes on a muggy night were David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen, who pieced together an incredible unbeaten 131-run combination to script a famous win for the Proteas. Van der Dussen attributed his outstanding performance on the night to the IPL.
The South African was part of the Rajasthan Royals system but only appeared in three games for the IPL 2022 runners-up. Despite his short game time, the right-handed batsman claims that his IPL experience prepared him for the heat and surfaces, allowing him to cope better against the Indian bowlers in the series opener.
Notably, his teammates David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock, and Anrich Nortje all competed in the IPL 2022 and performed admirably. The South African team’s outstanding form ahead of the five-match T20I series bodes well.
Notably, India was in command at one stage, with Van der Dussen struggling at 29 off 30 balls. However, after being dropped by Shreyas Iyer on the same score, the hard-hitting hitter went on to swat 45 off the next 15 balls. He was harsh on the quick bowlers, particularly Harshal Patel, the death overs specialist in this new-look Indian squad.
