Rohit Sharma getting rested for South Africa is a mistake, says RP Singh

This year, Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians finished with the wooden spoon after a disastrous run in the IPL 2022. But it was his batting form that was most alarming, as he failed to hit 300 runs in the IPL for only the second time since 2008. RP Singh, a former Indian fast, has questioned Rohit’s decision to rest for the T20I series against South Africa.

The Indian captain, along with other senior members including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami, will not play in the five-match T20I series against South Africa. Rohit had a poor run of form in the just-finished IPL 2022, scoring only 268 runs in 14 games and failing to reach a half-century.

RP Singh believes he has every right to take a vacation from the game, but as captain, he has additional obligations, and he should be leading his team in the series.

The left-arm pacer agreed that India’s skipper hasn’t been playing well recently, but added that Rohit has delivered match-winning knocks for Mumbai in the past and can come up with the goods even during a slump. He believes that in T20s, a team needs match-winners who can bring a spark to the team with their performance.
