IPL 2022 – 3 Players who did not receive a single game this season
There is fierce rivalry for a spot in the squad in a tournament like the Indian Premier League (IPL). Some players take full use of their opportunity to contribute to the club, while others fail and are dropped. Because T20 is a game of momentum, club management does not experiment with their lineups much.
Most of the teams in the 2022 season were made up of experienced international players, so there were few opportunities for others to make the team. On the other side, a few talented Indian players did not get their fair opportunities since they did not fit into the scheme of things.
Let’s talk about 3 players who did not receive a single game this season.
Number 1. Lungi Ngidi
Lungi Ngidi is a part of the South African Test team on a permanent basis. He was a vital bowler in the Proteas’ victory over India in their home ODI and Test series earlier this year. Ngidi has performed admirably for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the last three seasons.
Ngidi has 25 wickets at an economy of 8.30 in 14 matches. The pacer had 11 wickets in the 2018 edition and was one of the reasons the squad won their third title. He took five wickets in three matches in the 2021 edition.
Ngidi was purchased by the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2022 auction with INR 50 lakh. He was unable to represent the Capitals this season due to the squad already possessing strong pacers in Mustafizur Rahman and Anrich Nortje. If given another chance, he would like to do well for the Capitals and lead the team to the playoffs.
Number 2. Benny Howell
Benny Howell, an English all-rounder, has been playing domestic cricket since 2010. His performance with the Gloucestershire team aided his acquisition of an IPL contract with PBKS this season. In Blast 2021, Howell scored 246 runs at a strike rate of 142.19 and supplied late flourishes for his squad. He was also the tournament’s best wicket-taker, with 15 scalps at an economy rate of 8.10.
However, Howell would be unable to play for Punjab in the IPL 2022. The club did not try enough players, despite having all-rounders like Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith, and Rishi Dhawan, and the 33-year-old was deprived of his chances.
In his first knock since the end of the IPL, he struck 46 off 20 balls and got a wicket against Middlesex in the current Blast. The skilled all-rounder will try to maintain his outstanding results in order to stake a solid claim next year.
Number 3. Jason Behrendorff
Jason Behrendroff has been a reliable pacer in both powerplay and death overs. His ability to whip the new ball has come in handy for the Perth Scorchers in recent Big Bash League seasons (BBL).
Behrendroff took 16 wickets at an economy of 7.32 in 13 BBL matches in 2021-22, helping the Scorchers win the title. As a result, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) acquired him in the 2022 auction for INR 75 lakh.
However, the 32-year-old did not appear in any games throughout the season, as the foreign bowling positions were filled by players such as Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga.
