Rajat Patidar thanks Virat Kohli after scoring a century against LSG

Rajat Patidar played the innings of his life against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 Eliminator in front of a packed Eden Gardens in Kolkata Friday night (May 25). The elegant right-hander hit an unbeaten 112 off 54 balls as the batter punished the Super Giants’ lackluster bowling in the middle overs. Patidar thanked Virat Kohli on Twitter after the game.

Patidar, who was not originally a member of the RCB squad, was brought in as a replacement after Luvnith Sisodia got injured. Meanwhile, he posted a photo of himself with former RCB captain Virat Kohli with the caption “Thank you @imVkohli for believing in me!”

By the 11th over, RCB’s legendary batting combination of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell had all returned to the pavilion. With a few helping hands in the field, Patidar rose to the situation and stitched a backbreaking unbroken partnership of 92 runs from 41 balls with veteran Dinesh Karthik. The pair scored 84 runs in the final five overs to push RCB’s total to 207/4.

The night’s highlight was certainly Patidar’s amazing century, but RCB spinners Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood were equally good with the ball, reducing LSG to 193/6 after 20 overs.

“The magnitude of the game was so big that I was feeling the tension in the air because I have been in those situations where you have to cross the line as a team. What he did was very, very special, I don’t think that anyone should take that for granted. You should understand the excellence of the innings and appreciate as a cricketer to watch an innings like that,” said Kohli.
