PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal promises a strong rebound after a disappointing 2022 campaign

Mayank Agarwal, after analyzing PBKS’ forgettable campaign, stated that he will take the lessons learned and use them to motivate him to make a greater comeback in the future. Despite having a quality team on paper, the Mohali-based club displayed uneven performances throughout the competition, culminating in a 17-run loss to northern rivals Delhi Capitals in the final week of the league stages, which effectively ended their playoffs qualification aspirations.

Mayank was selected Punjab Kings captain ahead of the IPL 2022 season. He was one of the players retained for this season, along with yorker specialist Arshdeep Singh. However, a change in captaincy and a squad overhaul did not improve their case, as they finished sixth in the points standings with seven victories and as many losses from 14 matches.

The Indian opener himself did not have a spectacular batting performance, as he only managed 196 runs from 13 matches, averaging 16.33 and a strike rate of 122.50, including a solitary half-century with a top score of 52. Agarwal also tried moving batting positions, batting in the middle of the order in a few games, but that did not assist his cause.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the table-toppers Gujarat Titans by eight wickets in their final league encounter, therefore ending Punjab’s season. Apart from PBKS, the win also eliminated Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the final match of the IPL 2022 league stages between these two teams became insignificant.
On May 22, Punjab Kings completed their season with a five-wicket victory over the Orange Army at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
