IPLP 2022 – Five persons were arrested in Eden Gardens for their involvement in a betting ring
Five persons have been arrested for alleged involvement in a cricket racket from the Eden Gardens. The arrests occurred during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Eliminator match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
According to reports, the racket was apprehended on May 25 (Wednesday) evening by the anti-rowdy squad (ARS) of the Kolkata Police’s detective department (DD). Sunil Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Amar Kumar, Obada Khalil, and Aniket Kumar are all Bihar citizens who are participating in the racket.
ARS agents arrived in the F-I block of Eden Garden’s audience gallery after receiving a tip. Three teenagers were caught using their phones instead of watching the game while it was still in play. The ARS investigators then apprehended them. Following their confessions, ARS detained two additional people from a private guest home in Kolkata.
Seven mobile phones, a portable router, and cash were taken from them, according to ARS officials. According to ARS officials, the bookies used the portable router to ensure good internet connectivity inside the stadium. The local police are questioning them in order to find out who their associates are.
In the LSG-RCB match, LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bowl first. RCB crossed the 200-run barrier thanks to a brilliant century from Rajat Patidar and crucial contributions from Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik. LSG’s pick of the bowlers was pacer Mohsin Khan, who finished with figures of 1/25 in his four-over quota.
In response, KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda guaranteed that the new entrants remained in the competition. However, the newcomers lost the plot during the death overs, losing by 14 runs and being knocked out of the tournament.
