IPL 2022 – Dinesh Karthik attributes his Indian Team call-up to his selection by the RCB
Dinesh Karthik, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter, is overjoyed at his return to the national squad and determined to make an impression. The 36-year-old has been on a tear in the present Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, knocking out one after the other. Karthik has been a headache for bowlers in slog overs when batting lower down the order. In fact, he was crucial in getting RCB to the playoffs.
With the dasher excelling as a finisher, national selectors chose him for the forthcoming five-match home T20I series against South Africa, which begins on June 19. Notably, Karthik last appeared for India against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals. Many people did not believe he would wear the India jersey again after his performances in the previous two IPL seasons.
However, the Tamil Nadu-born cricketer bucked the odds with his outstanding performance in the IPL 2022. Meanwhile, Karthik described his comeback as “very amazing” because he had to work really hard. “I am overjoyed. I am very pleased. This is my most special comeback because a lot of people had given up on me,” Karthik was cited by RCB’s official website as saying.
“For me to come back and do what I did, practice the way I did, so many special things have happened in the lead up to the rock-shell and how I practiced post that,” he added. The swashbuckler also lavished massive praises on RCB’s head coach Sanjay Bangar and Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson.
Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia, is only a few months away, and India will play a number of T20Is in the lead-up to it. As a result, Karthik is likely to be given more opportunities to establish his worth.
