Arshdeep Singh receives his maiden national call up for the T20 series against South Africa

Arshdeep Singh, who was ecstatic after receiving his first national call-up, has opened up about how bowling to the tough Punjab Kings hitters in the nets helped him hone his ability to deliver yorkers. Arshdeep’s death-bowling abilities were strong throughout the season, and he finished with 10 wickets at an economy of 7.70.

On May 22, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a balanced squad for the upcoming home series against South Africa, including debuts for Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik, as well as Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya, who impressed with their brilliant comebacks in the IPL this season.

“I got to know just before the match, in the bus that I have got selected for the Indian team. Because the match was going on I didn’t feel much. It will sink in slowly. It is a special moment. I feel lucky and grateful and would like to continue like this,” Arshdeep said.

Arshdeep had toured Sri Lanka with the Indian team as a net bowler last year and was the sole player retained by his franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, along with skipper Mayank Agarwal. During the tournament this year, he worked with some of the best batters on his side, like Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, and Jonny Bairstow, to name a few.

The Indian squad, led by KL Rahul, will host the Proteas for a five-match T20I series beginning June 9. Many of the team’s senior members, including Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Virat Kohli, have been rested, while the youngsters who impressed in the IPL have been given a chance.
