Axar Patel reaches 100 IPL wickets, joining Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo on the list
Axar Patel of the Delhi Capitals became the Indian Premier League’s second left-arm spinner to reach 100 wickets on Monday (IPL). The 28-year-old reached the landmark with a spectacular delivery against Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal. Mayank had no replies for the approaching delivery because his stumps were smashed. Axar concluded his four overs with figures of 2/14 as DC won the vital match by 17 runs.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja of the Chennai Super Kings is the only other left-arm spinner with 100 or more wickets in the tournament. Axar is the 17th person to get the honor. Meanwhile, Axar burst onto the forefront in the IPL 2014, as he helped Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) reach the final.
Axar isn’t a big ball-turner, but his ability to bowl precisely has tormented even the best batters. Axar’s IPL career has had ups and downs, but he has eventually made a successful recovery. Not to mention that, in addition to being a deceptive bowler, Axar is a useful batsman later down the order and an excellent fielder.
Notably, Axar entered an elite group of all-rounders with this achievement, becoming only the fourth player in IPL history to have a double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets. The other three players with milestones are Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, and Sunil Narine.
Meanwhile, DC’s victory over PBKS proved critical, propelling them to the fourth position in the team standings. As a result, a win against the Mumbai Indians in their final league round should secure their spot in the IPL 2022 playoffs. Needless to say, Axar will be expected to maintain his incredible run and lead the Capitals to victory.
