Yuzvendra Chahal denies fighting for the Purple Cap alongside Wanindu Hasaranga

Rajasthan Royals advanced to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 playoffs after defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 24 runs in their most recent match. On a track where RR batted first and scored 178/6, LSG batters struggled to get going and ultimately fell short by a wide margin. Yuzvendra Chahal regained the Purple Cap during the match after bowling past RCB leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

While Chahal increased his tournament total to 24, Hasaranga has moved into second place with 23 scalps. Meanwhile, the RR spinner dismissed any challenge for the top slot in the bowling rankings between himself and the Sri Lanka spinner. Chahal, who refers to Hasaranga and Kuldeep Yadav as his brothers, expressed satisfaction with the achievement of his contemporaries.

“Whatever he’s (Hasaranga) doing, I am happy for him because he’s like a brother to me. If he takes wickets, if Kuldeep takes wickets, I am happy with that,” Chahal said after the match.

Meanwhile, as we near the end of the season, the race for the playoffs has heated up. While the Gujarat Titans have officially guaranteed a top-two finish, RR and LSG are almost there with 16 points and a strong net run rate. However, both teams can still be eliminated mathematically. As a result, it will be interesting to watch how the final four will appear.
