Shoaib Akhtar concedes that he will be happy to see Umran Malik beat his speed record

Shoaib Akhtar, one of the game’s top fast bowlers, expressed his wish to see India’s new phenomenon Umran Malik beat his record for the fastest delivery in international cricket. In the 2003 World Cup, the former Pakistan pacer clocked a 161.3 kmph delivery (100.2 mph), a record that has stood for a long time. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler Malik has consistently produced velocities beyond 150 Kmph in the ongoing IPL 2022 edition.

The speedster from Jammu and Kashmir has already wowed many experts after clocking the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 with a 157 Kmph thunderbolt, which also happened to be the second-fastest in tournament history. Malik has grabbed 18 wickets in 12 games this season, in addition to his raw pace, and has shown to be great retention by the franchise.

Akhtar stated that he wants to see Malik have a lengthy international career, which may be difficult for quick bowlers, and that he would be glad if Malik broke his record. He also stressed the significance of playing without injuries, as rapid bowlers put a lot of effort into their bodies. Meanwhile, he anticipates seeing Umran in international colors shortly.

“I want to see him have a long career. A few days ago, someone was congratulating me as it’s been 20 years since I bowled the fastest delivery but no one has been able to break the record. But I said, ‘There must be someone who can smash this record. I will be happy if Umran breaks my record. But he needs to ensure that he doesn’t get injured in the process. I want to see him playing for a long stretch without any injuries,” Shoaib Akhtar was quoted as saying.
