Shimron Hetmyer has rejoined the Rajasthan Royals and will be eligible for the CSK clash
Shimron Hetmyer, the stylish hitter for the Rajasthan Royals, has returned to camp and is expected to be available for the team’s last league stage encounter against the Chennai Super Kings on May 20. Hetmyer had escaped the bio-bubble to give birth to his first child.
His last game with the Royals was against the Punjab Kings, and his team won thanks to his finishing touches. He has been an important member of the team since the beginning of the season, including a brilliant 31*(16) against PBKS as RR successfully completed the chase. The Royals have had a tremendous season, and their players’ overall performance has elevated them to postseason contention.
Hetmyer was signed by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 8.5 crore and has been a pillar of the team this season. His role as a finisher has been crucial for the team, as he has scored 291 runs at an average of 72 while being undefeated in seven of his 11 IPL innings.
The West Indies will travel to the Netherlands and Pakistan once the IPL concludes, but Hetmyer has opted out of the series due to the birth of his baby boy. The prolific hitter informed his team’s selection panel that he will return for the IPL but would not be taking part in the following international trips.
Hetmyer went in and out of the national team due to fitness difficulties. Phil Simons, the squad’s head coach, had also expressed worries about his condition, saying that it was heartbreaking to watch a player like Hetmyer miss out on the national team because he was unable to satisfy the requisite fitness criteria. But he put on a strong performance in the IPL 2022, which gave the selectors a reason to consider him for the squad.
