IPL 2022 – Tim Southee is blown away by Andre Russell’s IPL 2022 form
Andre Russell of the West Indies was one of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ obligatory retainers ahead of the IPL 2022. He has been the most consistent player for the squad, both with the bat and with the ball. KKR is still mathematically in the playoff race because of massive wins against the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Russell has contributed significantly in both games.
Tim Southee, a KKR teammate, praised his ability to pull off remarkable feats, saying that the power batter always comes up with impactful performances just when the team needs him to. Furthermore, he stated that Russell’s stand with Sam Billings against SRH was critical as the wicket became more difficult to bat on in the second innings.
“He (Russell) has been tremendous throughout the whole tournament and has been good for such a long period of time not only with the bat but with the ball as well. There are a few guys around the world that can do special things and Andre Russell’s one of those guys. He thrives on those moments and more times than not, he turns in a performance that the team needs”, said Tim Southee as quoted by KKR’s official website.
While Russell only scored nine runs against MI, he made amends with the ball, recording figures of 2/22 from his 2.3 overs, which was crucial in Kolkata’s massive 52-run triumph. More importantly, the great all-rounder delivered a full effort in the following game against SRH, scoring an unbeaten 28-ball 49 and then shattering SRH’s batting attack with magnificent figures of 3/22 to help KKR win by 54 runs. Russell was also named Player of the Match.
