IPL 2022 – Top 5 Indian players from the seventh week of the tournament
After seven weeks of top-notch cricket entertainment, the Indian Premier League is nearing the end of its 15th edition. Each club now has only two matches left. This season has been so competitive that, except for Gujarat, no other team has confirmed their place in the top four.
Even now, seven clubs are in contention for the final three playoff slots. This season has seen a large number of newbies make significant contributions in the absence of established players due to poor form or injury. Indian teenagers have particularly defined their area by going all out.
We also saw several significant upsets and high-scoring games turn into low-scoring chases in the seventh week. Chennai Super Kings are out of the playoffs after losing to five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their previous match. Despite this, Indian players have done admirably this week. In this article, we are going to talk about the top 5 Indian players from the seventh week of the tournament.
Number 1. Rajat Patidar – Royal Challengers Bangalore
This season, Rajat Patidar has proven to be an excellent value for Royal Challengers Bangalore. When pillars like Virat Kohli are falling early, he has constantly scored runs for RCB. Rajat hit 48 runs off 38 balls against SRH.
His knock was crucial in helping Hyderabad set a target of 193 runs. Later, RCB’s bowling took control and bundled out SRH for 125 runs in 19.2 overs, giving RCB a 67-run triumph. He was also efficient versus Punjab.
Patidar got 26 runs off 21 balls before being dismissed by Rahul Chahar. While he was on the field, his two sixes and a four kept RCB in the game when others were out. RCB fell against Punjab by 54 runs but is still in the running for a playoff spot.
Number 2. Tilak Varma – Mumbai Indians
Tilak Varma, 19, has now scored the most runs in a season as a teenager in IPL history. He has scored 368 runs in 12 innings with the Mumbai Indians. Seniors are praising him both within and outside of Mumbai’s boot camp for his consistent improvement in performance.
Despite failing to score in the match against KKR, Kolkata smashed Mumbai by 52 runs. He stood firm in another low-scoring game between the IPL’s two most successful teams, CSK and MI. On 97 runs, MI had bundled out CSK.
Mumbai lost a couple of early wickets while chasing, but Tilak made careful not to give his wicket away this time. On 32 balls, he hit an undefeated 34 with four boundaries. He was placed at number four on purpose to boost his confidence. Mumbai won this match by five wickets, therefore ending CSK’s chances of making the playoffs.
Number 3. MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings
Dhoni is one of the few mainstays of the game who is still batting to his size this season. While openers like Virat and Rohit have faltered, Dhoni’s late comeback from four to five wickets down has shown to be the best finisher in the game. Mahi’s form has not changed despite the sudden captaincy change.
He has been unblemished on multiple occasions this season, which has greatly aided CSK with those late-game runs. Even this week, he was a standout captain and finisher. His short cameo of 21 runs off eight balls increased CSK’s aim against DC to 208. In that game, he also grabbed two catches behind the stumps.
CSK’s batting order failed horribly in another match against the Mumbai Indians. Dhoni managed to stay in the game till the end, but he did not receive adequate backing from the opposite side. In total, he scored 36 runs off 33 balls for a total of 97 runs.
Number 4. Ravichandran Ashwin – Rajasthan Royals
Ashwin’s traditional approach, combined with his intellect, has always shown through his game. He’s the type of all-rounder who can keep bowlers and hitters in check at the same time. Earlier this week, Ashwin did not bat against Punjab but bowled all four overs.
He took Shikhar Dhawan’s wicket in a match where only five wickets dropped. In another game, he hit a critical half-century against Delhi. His 50-off 38 powered Rajasthan’s innings, which saw them post a score of 160.
He was RR’s leading run-scorer in the game. RR only managed to take two wickets from DC, but Ashwin was extremely economical in his four overs, giving up 32 runs at an economy of 8 with seven dots.
Number 5. Jasprit Bumrah – Mumbai Indians
Jasprit Bumrah has regained his lost form, but it is too late as MI has been eliminated from the tournament. Bumrah’s influence on the outcome of the Mumbai Indians has been palpable throughout the season. He has the best stats in IPL 2022 thus far, and he is also one of the best in IPL history.
The Mumbai Indians were set a target of 166 by KKR, but Bumrah only conceded 10 runs in four overs. He picked up a fifer at an economy of 2.5, but his efforts were futile.
Mumbai had previously limited Chennai to 97 runs in 16 overs in another match. Mumbai’s bowlers jointly bowled out CSK. Bumrah was similarly economical in this match, conceding only 12 runs in three overs while also dismissing Robin Uthappa.
