IPL 2022 – 5 Best performing teams from the seventh week of the tournament
Week 7 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 finished with Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 54 runs (RCB). With a total of seven clubs competing for a berth in the second to fourth position in the points table, the outcome of this fixture promises a tight finish in the final week of the current season. Gujarat Titans (GT) were the first team to make the playoffs.
None of the clubs that played in two games this week were able to win back-to-back victories and had mediocre performances. Apart from RCB, the Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals (RR) require a win to guarantee their place in the playoffs. Teams like the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will play for pride in their final two league games.
We had some great performances this week and in this article, we are going to talk about the 5 best performing teams from the seventh week of the tournament.
Number 5. Mumbai Indians
MI played two games in week 7 and won one of them. The bowlers bowled well in the opening game against KKR, limiting the opposition to 165 runs, with Jasprit Bumrah earning figures of 5/10 in four overs.
In response, Rohit Sharma collapsed early, and others were unable to help. Ishan Kishan struck a half-century for the squad, which lost by 52 runs. The bowlers were fantastic in their second game against CSK, bundling out the opponents for a score of 97, with Daniel Sams picking up three wickets.
Then. MI also struggled to get off to a good start, with four wickets falling in the first six overs. Tilak Varma (34*) and Hrithik Shokeen (18) came to the team’s rescue once more, stitching a stand of 48 runs. Tim David, the team’s finisher, hammered two sixes to secure the team’s third victory.
Number 4. Rajasthan Royals
This week’s performance by one of the most balanced teams on paper has been ordinary. They won one of the two games they played last week. In their first league match, they faced PBKS, and the bowlers were unable to be effective enough, allowing 189 runs, with just Yuzvendra Chahal picking up three wickets.
In response, the batters stepped up to the plate and gave a strong start, scoring nearly 60 runs in powerplay overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (68) and Devdutt Padikkal (31) combined to assist the squad to win the game.
The next league game was against DC, and they could only muster 160 runs thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin’s half-century. Only Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult took a wicket between them in the bowling unit.
Number 3. Lucknow Super Giants
LSG delivered diametrically opposed performances in their last two games. In their first league game, they defeated KKR with a score of 176, thanks to Quinton de Kock’s half-century and Deepak Hooda’s 41. Then, Avesh Khan and Jason Holder each took three wickets to ensure a 75-run victory for the squad.
They met the Titans in a table-toppers clash in their second league game. The bowling efforts were once again superb, limiting the opposition to 144 runs, with Avesh Khan picking up two wickets, practically all of which were economical.
However, the batters were unable to get going, and the wickets dropped like a pack of cards, resulting in a 62-run loss for the side. This defeat means they must win one of their remaining games to secure a playoff spot.
Number 2. Punjab Kings
PBKS was defeated by RR in their first game the last week. They were fantastic, posting a total of 189 on the board thanks to great batting performances with Jonny Bairstow getting 56 off 40 balls. However, they were mediocre with the ball and were unable to take up enough wickets as the opponents quickly chased down the total.
They met RCB in the second league game and opened with all guns blazing, scoring 209 points. Jonny Bairstow (66) and Liam Livingstone (70) of England were outstanding in their efforts to put pressure on the opposition bowlers and score at an incredible rate.
The better performance of the bowlers and fielders contributed to the team’s 54-run victory. Kagiso Rabada grabbed three wickets, while Rishi Dhawan and Rahul Chahar each claimed two wickets.
Number 1. Gujarat Titans
With a fantastic effort against the Super Giants, the Titans were the first team to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs. In the batting department, they could only muster 144 runs, far short of the required total. Shubman Gill led the team in scoring with 63 off 49 balls, including seven fours.
In the end, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia contributed more than 20 hours to the team. GT secured early wickets of the opponent in the powerplay overs with the ball in hand. Rashid Khan’s brilliance was critical in breaking through the middle order and opening the door to win for the squad.
Rashid finished with four wickets, while Yash Dayal and Sai Kishore each took two wickets. The Titans put on a complete team performance, and they will be confident in their forthcoming games as well.
