IPL 2022 – The BEST Mumbai Indians Playing XI to face the Chennai Super Kings

The five-time winners are having a season to forget, currently sitting at the bottom of the points table with only two wins from 11 games. Mumbai Indians (MI) were defeated by the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous group stage match (KKR).

In their second group round match, the Mumbai Indians will meet defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). On May 12, the match will be contested in Mumbai’s renowned Wankhede Stadium (Thursday).

It will not be an easy challenge for Rohit Sharma’s squad, as the defending champions have regained their mojo and are presently winning matches under veteran star MS Dhoni’s guidance. MI team management would like to offer talented South African hitter Dewald Brevis another chance, and they will also look to add the seasoned Jaydev Unadkat to their bowling department.

Let’s take a look at the BEST Mumbai Indians Playing XI to face the Chennai Super Kings.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan open the innings

Ishan Kishan, the wicketkeeper-batter, scored 51 runs against KKR. However, the left-handed batter received no help from the opposite end. Kishan has not been at his best this season, but he did make a solid score in the previous match and would like to continue that performance against CSK.

So far, skipper Rohit Sharma has struggled to establish his mojo in IPL 2022. The right-handed batter scored only two runs in the previous game and has struggled to even rotate the strike. With MI out of contention for the playoffs, Rohit will want to play more freely and produce runs for his club.

Dewald Brewis, Tim David, and Tilak Varma strengthen the middle order

With Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of the tournament, MI can offer a chance to youngster Dewald Brevis, who has previously played some brief but spectacular knocks for the Men in Blue and Gold. The right-handed hitter stole the show against PBKS when he hammered Rahul Chahar for 28 runs in one over.

Tilak Varma, a young hitter, has been one of MI’s standout performances this season. However, the left-handed batter only managed to score six runs in the previous game and will seek to bounce back against CSK. Meanwhile, Tim David only managed 13 runs in the previous encounter and would like to score some quick runs in the next one.

Kieron Pollard and Daniel Sams offer all-rounder support

MI’s all-rounders have also let the squad down with poor performances. Pollard, the seasoned all-rounder, has only scored 144 runs in the last 11 games and has taken four wickets. The big unit from West Indies hasn’t been at his best in the competition so far, but no one can deny his ball-striking talents, which is why MI might stay with him in the next encounter.

Daniel Sams, an Australian all-rounder, has been in good form since his comeback to the playing XI. He also managed to defend nine runs against GT while giving up only 26 in the previous encounter. Sams is a devastating batsman who will want to give his all in the upcoming encounter against CSK.

Jasprit Bumrah, Murugan Ashwin, Kumar Kartikeya and Jaydev Unadkat form the bowling attack

Senior bowler Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc on the KKR batting order, taking five wickets and conceding only ten runs in his four-over quota. The right-arm bowler was also named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling effort and hopes to continue his good form against CSK. Similarly, Kumar Kartikeya took two crucial wickets of the KKR openers and would seek to replicate his performance in the next encounter.

This season, Murugan Ashwin has bowled brilliantly for the five-time champions. In eight games, the right-arm spinner has taken nine wickets and bowled at an economy of 7.86. Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat could return to the playing XI in place of Riley Meredith.
