IPL 2022 – 3 Players who have been absolute bargains for their franchises this season

The success of an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise is heavily reliant on its auction strategy. Every year, we see some intriguing auction picks that turn out to be the guys who offer exceptional performances. As multiple franchises are involved in the bidding war, a number of players pocket large quantities of money. The true battle, however, is won in the area of inexpensive picks, since these kinds of players not only help franchises save money on action but also bring value to the squad.

The IPL 2022 Mega Auction was a magnificent occasion, as the tournament’s 15th edition witnessed the inclusion of two additional franchises. The star players, who had won a large number of money, faced a great deal of difficulty. A few franchises also got their scouting correct, as they selected a few players at their starting salaries. This season, these inexpensive picks have proven to be reliable contributors for their respective teams. This article will look at three players that have proven to become absolute bargain buys for their franchises this season.

Number 1. Mukesh Choudhary – Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings have consistently come up with great steals during the IPL auction. Mukesh Choudhary, a left-arm bowler, has been one of Chennai’s star players this year. Things did not start well for the teenager, who was taken to the cleaners in his first few matches.

However, his fortunes were turned around by his spectacular spell against the Mumbai Indians, and he is now a mainstay on the CSK team. He has 13 wickets in 10 games for an average of 25.53. Mukesh was chosen at auction for INR 20 lakhs because the reigning champions were the only bidders.

The 25-year-old bowls the majority of his overs during the powerplay. This season, he has done more than a decent job filling in for the injured Deepak Chahar. Chennai has had a disappointing season by their high standards. Mukesh Choudhary’s performance, on the other hand, has been a promising indicator for the four-time champs.

Number 2. Umesh Yadav – Kolkata Knight Riders

Umesh Yadav was not one of the most popular players before the IPL mega auction. Kolkata Knight Riders paid a basic fee of INR 2 crore for the Indian pacer. Many supporters questioned the franchise’s decision to spend so much money on the seasoned fast bowler.

With his excellent performances this season, the Vidarbha-born bowler has proven his detractors wrong. Umesh Yadav has 15 wickets at an average of 19.06 in 10 matches thus far. The 34-year-old bowler has a habit of giving up too many runs, but he has kept his economy rate under control this season.

Umesh Yadav has frequently taken early wickets with the new ball, helping his team get off to a solid start. He is the eighth-highest wicket-taker this season and will look to finish the season on a positive note, given that Kolkata is out of contention for the playoffs.

Number 3. Bhanuka Rajapaksa

Bhanuka Rajapaksa drew a lot of attention after his impressive performances for Sri Lanka in the T20I World Cup. The left-handed batsman has a reputation for scoring runs at a breakneck pace, and with a starting salary of just INR. 50 lakhs, multiple franchises were expected to be interested in his services.

However, Punjab Kings were the only bidders who were able to secure the Sri Lankan batter for his starting fee. So far, Bhanuka Rajapaksa has put on some outstanding performances with the bat and has shown to be a valued option. He has 201 runs scored at an average of 28.71 in seven innings.

He bats at a strike rate of little more than 165 and is not afraid to take on the opposition bowlers. The left-hander was discarded by Punjab Kings upon the signing of Jonny Bairstow but was quickly promoted back into the starting lineup. Punjab is still in the chase for a playoff position, and Rajapaksa will be crucial in enabling his team to sneak into the top four.
