IPL 2022 – This is how Kolkata Knight Riders can qualify for the playoffs
We are nearing the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, and the competition for the playoffs has heated up. Despite the fact that 55 of the 70 league-stage games have already concluded, not a single team has officially entered the top four. At the same time, the five-time champion Mumbai Indians are the only team that has been declared eliminated from the playoff competition.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders are also on the verge of joining MI, but they are mathematically still in the running. The two-time champions performed admirably in the opening four games under Shreyas Iyer’s direction and appeared to be on a roll. However, they lost steam midway through the season, and five consecutive defeats wrecked their campaign.
Currently, KKR has only four victories in 11 games and is in eighth place in the team standings. Furthermore, their net run rate of -0.304 is only slightly better than the last-placed team MI. As a result, even victories in their last three games are unlikely to help KKR advance to the next round. Nonetheless, as previously stated, there are still some hopes, and the Knight Riders have compelling reasons to perform well in their final games.
Meanwhile, one thing is certain: KKR may climb to the fourth position if they win their remaining games by large margins and other match outcomes go their way. Given their current position, though, any place in the last four would send the Knight Riders overjoyed.
Here are the scenarios that can lead to KKR qualifying for the playoffs.
Scenario 1. The last three games for KKR are against the Mumbai Indians, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the Lucknow Super Giants. Needless to say, Shreyas Iyer’s side must win all of these games by large margins in order to improve their net run rate. It should be emphasized that LSG currently leads the standings, and defeating them would be difficult.
Below are the listed results that need to go in KKR’s favor for them to qualify for the playoffs.
