Kevin Pietersen returns home following a stint as a commentator in the IPL 2022

Kevin Pietersen, a former England cricketer, and broadcaster, has quit the commentary panel for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). It should be mentioned that the seasoned batter joined the commentary team in mid-April and has since given his opinions during commentary in addition to engaging in group talks and doing pitch reports.

On May 9, Pietersen announced his intention to withdraw from the tournament via a Tweet on the microblogging site Twitter. Meanwhile, the IPL 2022 is nearing the end of its run, with 19 matches remaining before the finals on May 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In terms of Kevin Pietersen’s IPL experience as a player, the former cricketer competed in five editions of the most difficult franchise-based competition. The right-handed hitter made his IPL debut in 2009, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Rajasthan Royals. Pietersen has played for the Delhi Capitals and the Rising Pune Super Giants in addition to the Red Army. His last appearance in the IPL was for RPSG against the first franchise in 2016. The right-handed hitter appeared in 36 IPL games, scoring 1001 runs and taking seven wickets.

In terms of international figures, the 41-year-old represented England in 104 Tests and 136 One-Day Internationals, scoring 8181 and 4440 runs, respectively. He appeared in 37 T20Is and scored 1176 runs at a respectable average of 37.94. In the 20-over format, he also hit seven fifties.
