IPL 2022 – Players who can step in for Shimron Hetmyer at the Rajasthan Royals

Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has left the camp to return home to Guyana to attend the birth of his first kid. He will be quarantined for three days after arriving in India, and as a result, he will most likely miss RR’s next game against the Delhi Capitals on May 11.

He has been an important member of the RR’s batting lineup this season, putting up some impressive numbers. His closing touches helped RR win a final-over victory against the Punjab Kings on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium. Following a few setbacks, the victory was a confidence booster for RR, who also collected two vital points.

In 11 games, the Caribbean finisher has scored 291 runs at an average of 72.75. He has remained unbeaten in seven of these 11 games. His death-over strike rate of 214.28 is huge, and he has shown to be one of the most lethal finishers this season.

With Shimron now unavailable, here are some of the players who can step in for him and provide the same, if not better contribution towards the push for the playoffs and beyond.

Number 1. Daryl Mitchell

The New Zealander is competing in his debut season of India’s cash-rich event and was purchased by RR at his starting price of 75 lacs. Mitchell was named to the playing eleven for the games against RCB and MI, but he struggled with the bat in both of them.

While he had 16(24) against RCB, he had 17 runs in 20 balls against MI. The all-rounder was also given a shot with the ball, but he conceded a little too much and was withdrawn from the lineup as a result.

However, with Shimron Hetmyer out, RR will be experimenting with their playing XI, and Mitchell might be the front-runner if the team is willing to slot in an all-rounder.

Number 2. Jimmy Neesham

This season, the 31-year-old Kiwi player was one of the RR’s newcomers. Before joining RR this year, he formerly represented PBKS and MI in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

He has only played one game this season, but he has seen action with both the bat and the ball. In addition to scoring 17 runs, he bowled a three-over period in which he let up 29 runs without picking up a wicket.

He has Trent Boult on his side and has been pretty helpful to him as well. When Boult removed KL Rahul for a golden duck, he credited Neesham, stating it was Neesham’s plan that he put into effect. RR can also apply the experience in their next meeting with DC.

Number 3. Rassie van der Dussen

Van der Dussen has only 10 runs to his name in two IPL 2022 matches for RR. He made his debut against the Lucknow Super Giants, scoring four goals (4). He was then retained for the match against the Gujarat Titans, where he scored six runs off ten balls.

However, considering he has no IPL experience and is fresh to the setup, there is a potential he will return to the playing combination.

If he is selected, the 33-year-old can provide balance in the middle order and assist the veteran Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson. He has some solid T20 records to back him up, which can help him move further.
