IPL 2022 – What you need to know about MI’s latest recruit, Tristan Stubbs

After a morale-boosting five-wicket win over an in-form Rajasthan Royals last weekend, in which they added the first two points to their tally in the ongoing IPL 2022, the Mumbai Indians will look to win a second straight game when they face the table-toppers Gujarat Titans on May 6 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

The five-time champions have suffered a major loss ahead of the forthcoming match, as one of their frontline pacers, Tymal Mills, has been ruled out of the competition due to an ankle injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season. While this has put MI in a bind, they have quickly resorted to a backup option by signing Tristan Stubbs as a replacement.

In this article, we are going to talk about Mumbai Indians’ latest signing.

Tristan Stubbs is a South African cricketer on the rise. While he has yet to achieve fame and glory with the Proteas at the top level, the 21-year-old does have some experience under his belt, having played a few first-class and List-A matches since his debut in 2020. Tristan has scored 465, 275, and 506 runs in eight, eleven, and seventeen FC, List-A, and T20 matches, respectively.

For this season, the youngster has been offered INR 20 lakhs and is set to join the MI squad soon. The incredibly gifted middle-order batter had a fantastic season in the just-finished CSA Challenge, amassing 293 runs averaging 48.83 and a strike rate of 183.12 while representing the Warriors. Tristan Stubbs was also a key member of South Africa’s A squad for the journey to Zimbabwe.

The aspiring cricketer from the ‘Rainbow Nation’ will be seeking to make the most of his prospects while trying his luck with the former champions, who are looking to train the next generation of talent. It will also be intriguing to watch how many matches he will appear in this time around.

It will be interesting to see when and how the Mumbai outfit decides to play him in the starting XI, but given that the current squad is not really firing on all cylinders, he should be in with a great shout.
