IPL 2022 – 5 Players who have been under utilised by their franchises

The IPL has brought some new names to the forefront each year, and for some, it has helped them to relaunch their careers. It is the league where new players have the opportunity to play with worldwide superstars of various nationalities. The IPL gives a platform for young players to demonstrate their abilities to the rest of the world. Many similar examples have demonstrated the IPL’s importance in players’ careers. It is proof that if a player performs incredibly well in the IPL, it is obvious that he is ready for the big stage.

The IPL 2022 is no exception to this rule. This season has been an eye-opener. This season has produced a plethora of talented individuals. Umran Malik, Rajat Patidar, Aayush Badoni, Mohsin Khan, and others come to mind. Despite the fact that some players do not have enough opportunities in the playing 11s due to the apparent reason of squad compositions. Such players have the ability to alter the course of the game, yet they are underutilized. Here are five IPL 2022 players who have been underutilized.

Number 1. Marcus Stoinis (Lucknow Super Giants)

The renowned Australian all-rounder has had plenty of opportunities, but the Lucknow Super Giants haven’t taken full use of them. LSG’s batting positions at 5, 6, and 7 haven’t helped him. Marcus Stoinis is well-known for his power-hitting ability as well as his useful medium-pace bowling. Marcus bats at number three or four in T20 internationals and the Big Bash League and has excelled at those spots. Stoinis’ never-say-die mentality and striking ability make him a viable option in the upper-middle order.

Lucknow Super Giants have made an impression in their first IPL season, winning seven of their ten games. They’re moving closer to securing a spot in the playoffs. However, if they want to take advantage of every possibility in their next games, they must fully utilize Marcus Stoinis’ talents. The Lucknow Super Giants have lost three matches so far, and in each of those games, the batting order was incorrectly established, with Marcus Stoinis being moved down the order, causing irreversible harm.

Marcus Stoinis has appeared in six games this season and has not performed to his full capacity, owing primarily to his misplaced position in the batting order. However, they cannot afford to lose the full potential of a player of Marcus Stoinis’ caliber going forward. To make the most of his powers, he can be used higher up the sequence, possibly at number three. In pursuit of a high total, he can be a valuable asset to the Lucknow Super Giants.

Number 2. Chetan Sakariya (Delhi Capitals)

Chetan Sakariya was the IPL 2021 rising star. Last year, the left-arm fast got 14 wickets in 14 matches with an excellent economy of 8.19. His strong performance on the domestic circuit and in the IPL 2021 qualified him to play for India against Sri Lanka. Chetan Sakariya’s seam bowling ability astounded everyone. He has become a key T20 bowler due to his great use of slower balls and consistent bowling in the proper spots.

Chetan, on the other hand, has only played two matches in IPL 2022, taking one wicket. However, in one of the two matches he played, he was quite frugal, taking one wicket for 17 runs in three overs. The Delhi Capitals’ campaign has fallen short of their expectations. They have lost their consistency from the previous two seasons. This season, their inconsistency in the center of the lineup has let them down on multiple occasions. Their pace attack has been rather consistent, with players such as Mustafizur Rahman and Khaleel Ahmed.

Chetan Sakariya can add some diversity to their assault and help them win some crucial wickets. Throughout his IPL career, he has been frugal. The use of slower balls can be immensely deceiving to opposing batters. As of now, he has been significantly underutilized, but the Delhi Capitals may need to utilize his skills more frequently in the future because they have a tightrope to walk in their upcoming matches.

Number 3. Sandeep Sharma (Punjab Kings)

Sandeep Sharma is an accomplished IPL campaigner. He has been the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack. He has 114 wickets in 102 outings with an excellent economy of 7.78. He has been a consistent performer with the new ball and has taken important wickets in the powerplay. Early in the game, he can seam the bowl both ways.

However, he has only played three games in the IPL 2022, taking two wickets. Throughout his long IPL career, he has accumulated a wealth of experience. He understands how to grab wickets during the powerplay. Sandeep Sharma is someone who cannot be overlooked for long since he can provide enormous value to the playing 11, especially when the bowlers are on the move. He was a key player of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s championship-winning squad in 2016.

Sandeep Sharma can be useful on the Mumbai surfaces by assisting seamers in the powerplay. Punjab will play their “all assault, no matter what” strategy, although this may enhance the likelihood of a collapse. However, when such incidents arise, people like Sandeep Sharma and Arshdeep Singh can come to the rescue. The Punjab Kings may struggle if Sandeep Sharma is underutilized. Sandeep Sharma cannot be overlooked if they are to go to the playoffs.

Number 4. Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

The Madhya Pradesh batter has not received much attention, but his services to Royal Challengers Bangalore have been critical. He scored 52 runs in 32 deliveries in their most recent match against Gujarat Titans, helping them to a respectable total of 170. He has only played two games in the IPL 2022 so far. In his most recent match, his shot-making talents and game awareness were pretty amazing. His collaboration with the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s out-of-form Virat Kohli was an encouraging omen.

He was selected by RCB in the 2021 auction and was drafted this season as a replacement for Luvnith Sisodia. Rajat Patidar has been a standout performer in recent domestic seasons. His domestic T20 record definitely displays his ability. He has scored 929 runs in 33 T20 matches, with a spectacular average of 30.96 and a decent strike rate of 138.86. RCB is battling to maintain its momentum after losing its last three matches in a row.

Virat Kohli is gradually and surely coming into his own, but if it takes time, it may cost RCB in the long run. If RCB were to return to winning ways, a player like Rajat Patidar cannot be kept out of the starting lineup. The maturity with which he played with Kohli will increase his confidence and benefit RCB in their forthcoming games.

Number 5. Fabian Allen (Mumbai Indians)

The Jamaican allrounder has played for T20 franchises around the world. Since his debut in 2018, he has been a regular component of the West Indies squad. The 26-year-old batsman is a left-arm orthodox spinner who bats in the lower middle order. He is a bowler who can take wickets in the middle overs while also contributing useful runs at the end of an innings. Allen has also created a name for himself with his athletic fielding talents. He’s a complete T20 package, and as such, he’s a regular on the T20 franchise cricket circuit.

Fabian Allen, on the other hand, has not had a season of activity in the IPL 2022. He has only played one game so far, taking up one wicket for 46 runs in four overs. And he hasn’t been in the Mumbai Indians’ starting lineup since. The Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2022 campaign has been difficult. Despite the fact that they managed to win a game following an eight-game losing run. After five straight defeats, Fabian Allen was inserted into the starting lineup, but his presence did not improve MI’s fortunes.

Despite the fact that he should have been a member of the team much sooner. Because his fellow West Indian, Kieron Pollard, was not in top form, Allen might have filled in for him, or he could have been deployed as a floater early in the innings to provide that acceleration. Allen could have played the position that Sunil Narine has done for the Kolkata Knight Riders as a run rate booster in the powerplay, as the openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, were timid throughout the season.
