Kane Williamson is fit for the England Tests, according to New Zealand head coach Gary Stead
Kane Williamson is fit and ready to play in New Zealand’s three-match away Test series against England next month, according to head coach Gary Stead. The New Zealand skipper, who last played for his country in November 2021, has returned to the squad, as NZC revealed an initial 20-player roster for England Tests on Tuesday (May 3).
Williamson was sidelined by a chronic elbow injury, which forced him to miss the critical Test series against Bangladesh and South Africa. The talismanic hitter is currently captaining Sunrisers Hyderabad in the present Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Stead indicated that the veteran has almost completely recovered from his injury difficulties and would undoubtedly play against the Three Lions.
Meanwhile, the Test series begins on June 2nd, and the IPL 2022 final will be held on May 29th. As a result, Stead is concerned that some IPL-bound players would miss the first Test owing to playoff matches.
Notably, the Kiwis have fond memories of the United Kingdom, where they won a 1-0 Test series last year. Days after winning the series, the Kiwis defeated India in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final to claim the prestigious trophy.
