IPL 2022 – The BEST Kolkata Knight Riders Playing XI to face the Rajasthan Royals

On May 2, the Kolkata Knight Riders will face an in-form Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022 Match 47 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. KKR will be seeking to revenge for their seven-run defeat in the reverse fixture. The two-time champions have lost five consecutive games, putting an end to their winning streak.

With their campaign disrupted, the Kolkata Knight Riders had no choice but to make some much-needed changes to their starting XI. They might bring in senior wicketkeeper-batsman Sheldon Jackson and Australia all-rounder Pat Cummins while omitting Baba Indrajith and Australia’s white-ball captain Aaron Finch. Sunil Narine, a mystery spinner, might be called up as a pinch hitter to start the game.

With all these changes in the pipeline, let’s take a look at the BEST Kolkata Knight Riders Playing XI to face the Rajasthan Royals.

Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer to open the innings

Sunil Narine’s batting performance in this year’s IPL has been subpar. In the previous game, he was removed by Kuldeep Yadav for a golden duck while batting in the middle order. The Caribbean star could be given another chance to open the innings, and KKR will be hoping that his great pinch-hitting abilities establish a firm foundation.

Venkatesh Iyer, Kolkata’s breakout star last season, has failed to impress this season, scoring 126 runs from eight innings at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 102.44. He’ll be looking to recapture his rhythm on the 22-yard line, as the two-time winners are desperate for a win to resurrect their campaign.

Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Sheldon Jackson, and Nitish Rana solidify the middle order

While the Kolkata Knight Riders had a batting collapse in the previous game, it was skipper Shreyas Iyer who led from the front with crucial innings of 42 runs off 37 balls, guiding his team to a respectable total of 146/9. Iyer would be expected to impress in the middle order once more against a powerful Rajasthan bowling attack.

Nitish Rana produced a brave half-century against the Capitals, and his contribution was crucial for his side at a critical juncture. With a 34-ball 57, he was Kolkata’s leading scorer. KKR will be looking for him to remain consistent in the coming weeks as they want to pick up some valuable points following a spate of defeats. Sheldon Jackson hasn’t done much with the bat aside from a lightning-quick stumping of Robin Uthappa in the curtain-raiser, and he’ll be eager to capitalize on this occasion.

Rinku Singh, who scored a critical 23 runs off 16 balls, would be hungry to improve on his previous performance.

Andre Russell and Pat Cummins form the all-rounder duo

Andre Russell did not worry about the scoring in the last game, but he has been the KKR’s backbone this season, both with the bat and with the ball. He has a few match-winning half-centuries, but his most impressive performance was a four-wicket haul against the Gujarat Titans last weekend. The Caribbean megastar would like to make his presence known once more.

Pat Cummins has yet to make an impression this season, aside from his match-winning quickfire 50 against the Mumbai Indians. With the ball in hand, Australia’s Test captain has only four scalps in as many outings. Kolkata will be hoping for an all-around performance from the Australian.

Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, and Harshit Rana complete the bowling attack

Umesh Yadav, KKR’s most consistent bowler, with 14 wickets from nine games and is also named to the Purple Cap list. As he confronts RR’s legendary batting lineup, he will be seeking to add to his count of scalps. Tim Southee, a speedster from New Zealand, has eight scalps from four encounters so far. He was bowled out in the previous game against DC.

Harshit Rana’s sheer pace showed a lot of promise, and he also took the wicket of the hard-hitting Mitchell Marsh in the previous match. Against Rajasthan’s blazing power-hitters, the developing speedster will be looking to let the ball do the talking.
