Virender Sehwag believes CSK can make the IPL 2022 playoffs under MS Dhoni’s leadership
MS Dhoni was re-appointed as Chennai Super Kings captain following the defending champions’ disappointing performances in the IPL 2022, where they only managed two victories from eight games ahead to their match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1. Meanwhile, CSK defeated SRH by 13 runs to grab the two crucial points.
Following the title-holders’ third win of the season, former India vice-captain Virender Shewag believes Chennai, led by Dhoni, can make the playoffs this time around. He recalled the Commonwealth Bank tri-series in 2007/08 when a youthful Indian squad achieved history on Australian grounds.
“I have been with that man since 2005 and I have seen Indian cricket change under him,” Sehwag said.
CSK is now ninth in the points table, with three victories from nine games and six points to their name. They must win all of their remaining games from now on to have a chance of making it into the final four and successfully defending their title. Dhoni-led CSK to a record-equaling fourth IPL victory last season, and he will be asked to achieve the impossible again this season as Chennai seeks a record-equaling fifth trophy.
On May 4, the Chennai Super Kings will face their southern rivals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. RCB is also struggling, having lost three consecutive games in a row to SRH, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans.
