IPL 2022 – This is how the Royal Challengers Bangalore can still qualify for the playoffs
After a strong start to the IPL 2022 season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has slowed and must pick up the pace before it’s too late. The team managed by Faf du Plessis presently has five wins from ten games, with four games remaining in the season. It should be mentioned that the Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently on a three-match losing streak, as various flaws in the team have been uncovered.
Virat Kohli’s form is clearly a major source of concern for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, as the 33-year-old has struggled to make his bat talk this season. While he hit a half-century against the Gujarat Titans last time out, it took him 53 balls to make 58, putting the other batters under strain. There are some vulnerabilities in the bowling lineup as well, with Mohammed Siraj has been inconsistent this season.
The fast bowler has not been able to grab critical wickets or limit the flow of runs. This same team, however, was on a roll a few weeks ago. Dinesh Karthik, Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood have all been outstanding this season, and these players will need to step up if RCB is to win.
Let’s take a look at the various scenarios where the Royal Challengers Bangalore can qualify for the playoffs.
Number 1. RCB has five wins from ten games and will play four more league-stage games this season. In this situation, the math is very straightforward, since RCB will advance if they win all of their remaining games and reach 18 points. If their net run rate is higher, the Bengaluru-based squad can also finish in the top two with this number of points.
Number 2. If RCB wins three of their next four games and finishes with 16 points, things will become interesting, and calculators will be in use. Normally, these many points are sufficient to see a team through. This season, though, the arrival of two additional teams have changed the equation. As a result, despite possessing 16 points, a team could be eliminated.
In this instance, the net run rate will play a significant role. The current NRR of RCB (-0.558) is negative. As a result, they must concentrate on winning games by a wide margin in order to increase their NRR. Meanwhile, more than one loss would eliminate Bangalore’s prospects of making the last four.
