Harbhajan Singh would like Hardik Pandya to bat higher up the order for Team India
Hardik Pandya has been on a tear in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, helping Gujarat Titans to a commanding lead in the team standings. The speedy batsman, who was a finisher for the Mumbai Indians, has been batting higher in the order this season. He has up to the occasion with aplomb, scoring 308 runs in eight matches at an outstanding strike rate.
Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is quite impressed with the GT captain and has bestowed him with accolades. The 41-year-old even believes Hardik could bat higher in the order for the Indian cricket team in forthcoming matches. Though Harbhajan avoided making any comparisons, he believes Hardik has performed better than many of the game’s “best batters” at the moment. He also stated that the selectors and team management can pick another player for the finisher’s job, relieving Hardik of that burden.
“Hardik has a fantastic technique.” He has the potential to be a good batsman. But until recently, we hadn’t seen him in this role. He used to come down the lineup and slam monster hits. “With 17-18 overs remaining in the innings, he had the opportunity to come to bat properly, and he has looked like a top-class batsman,” Harbhajan said.
“I would want Hardik to have such chances in the Indian team as well. You can have someone else as a finisher. If you have such solid players like him at number three-four, you don’t need to send him down the order. When you are set, in the latter overs you can do more damage. He has been phenomenal with the bat, and outstanding with the ball too. He is making a strong case for himself,” he added.
