Aakash Chopra urges the Mumbai Indians to give Ishan Kishan a break
At the IPL 2022 mega auction in February, the Mumbai Indians paid a whopping INR 15.25 crore to repurchase Ishan Kishan. While he showed a lot of potential in the season opener against the Delhi Capitals, scoring an undefeated 81, the youngster has struggled to make an impact and has been dismissed early on a few occasions.
With Kishan unable to find his form on the 22-yard mark, former India Test opener Aakash Chopra believes the team should rest the wicketkeeper-batter soon. Further clarifying, the cricketer-turned-commentator stated that the 23-year-old does not appear to be in the correct mindset, with little confidence and zero belief in himself.
Kishan has only 199 runs at an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 108.15 from eight games, including two half-centuries. Furthermore, nothing has gone right for the Mumbai Indians this season. After a 36-run defeat against the Lucknow Super Giants last weekend, the Rohit Sharma-led side officially became the first team to be knocked out of the IPL 2022 playoff race.
All they can hope for now is to recover their pride by winning their remaining six games and finishing on a strong note. The five-time champions are also towards the bottom of the standings. The Mumbai Indians will be looking for their first points when they face an in-form Rajasthan Royals on April 30 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. It will be intriguing to see who Mumbai’s team will be for this specific competition.
