Things that have happened in the cricket world since Mumbai Indians last won a match

The Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a season to forget, having lost eight consecutive games and become the first team to accomplish this feat. Things were looking up after the announcement of their retention picks, but they had a poor showing in the IPL 2022 mega auction, which was the first cause for the continued fall.

The failure of the openers, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, has hindered them from enjoying a decent start in the powerplay overs this season. Although the middle order has performed admirably, with players such as Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma putting in strong performances. However, a dearth of wicket-taking options and Bumrah’s middling performance have not helped their cause.

It feels like its been ages since the Mumbai outfit won a game and this is a list of things that have happened in the cricket world since we saw the Rohit Sharma-led franchise grab a W in the IPL.

Number 1. AB de Villiers announced his retirement from cricket

Protea batter AB de Villiers, dubbed “Mr. 360,” demonstrated his captivating ability to knock shots all over the park. With Kohli and Gayle at the top, he has been the RCB middle-rock order’s for many years.

AB declared his retirement from all forms of cricket in November 2021, including the IPL. He has 313 runs at an average of 31.30 in the 2021 season, with the top score of 76*.

During his 184-match IPL career, he scored 5162 runs at an average of 39.70 and a strike rate of 151.68. From 2011 to 2021, he was a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Daredevils for the first three seasons.

Number 2. India’s unbeaten streak against Pakistan in ICC tournaments came to an end

The most unexpected thing that has occurred since MI’s previous IPL victory is that India’s winning streak over Pakistan in World Cup history has ended in a one-sided match. The Indian team lost the T20 World Cup 2021 match against Pakistan after failing to protect their 151-run total.

Shaheen Afridi’s stunning stint of new ball bowling upset India, taking vital wickets of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. The team was unable to recover and barely managed a respectable score, with Kohli making a half-century.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan responded with half-centuries to enable Pakistan win by ten wickets. Prior to this match, India had a 12-0 lead over Pakistan in the World Cups, which included 50-over and 20-over format matches.

The Australian squad won four of five league matches in the T20 World Cup 2021 Super 12 stage, securing their participation in the following round. In the semi-finals, they met Pakistan and chased down a 177-run mark in spectacular fashion. Matthew Wade completed the chase after hitting three sixes off Shaheen Afridi’s over.

In the finals, Australia faced up against the New Zealand squad. They were successful in chasing 173 after being mediocre with the ball, with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner scoring half-centuries. Warner was named the player of the tournament after scoring 289 runs in seven matches.

Australia won its first T20 World Cup in international cricket. They have won the ODI World Cup five times in a row, in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015.
