IPL 2022 – Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel split the Player-of-the-Match award
Kuldeep Yadav shared his Player-of-the-Match trophy with colleague and left-arm spinner Axar Patel in a moving gesture. Notably, Kuldeep Yadav was named Player of the Game for his outstanding bowling performance against Punjab Kings during the group stage match (PBKS). The left-arm wrist-spinner took two wickets and conceded just 24 runs in his four overs.
Axar Patel, the left-arm spinner, too took two wickets and conceded only 10 runs in his four-over quota. The IPL management committee, on the other hand, elected to honour Kuldeep as Player of the Match for his scalps of Kagiso Rabada and Nathan Ellis.
Returning to the contest, DC crushed the Punjab Kings by nine wickets in the group stage encounter played at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on April 20. (Wednesday).
Rishabh Pant, DC’s skipper, won the toss and elected to have a bowl first. The bowlers validated his judgement, as PBKS were bowled out for 115 in their allotted 20 overs. For DC, Kuldeep, Khaleel Ahmed, Lalit Yadav, and Axar Patel each took two wickets.
For PBKS, young hitter Jitesh Sharma scored 32 runs off 23 balls. The only hitters to achieve double digits were captain Mayank Agarwal (24 off 15 balls), Shahrukh Khan (12 off 20 balls), and Rahul Chahar (12 off 12 balls).
In reply, DC hitters dominated the PBKS bowlers during the field limitations, with Prithvi Shaw (41 off 20 balls) and David Warner (60* off 30 balls) thrashing the PBKS bowlers. Spinner Rahul Chahar was the Kings’ sole successful bowler, scalping Shaw.
