IPL 2022 – The best Delhi Capitals Playing XI to face the Punjab Kings
In their previous encounter versus Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Delhi Capitals were victorious (RCB). They did, however, manage to let the game slip from their grip. Not just against RCB, but throughout the IPL 2022, this has been the story for DC. The Capitals have somehow allowed their opponents to rally and eventually defeat them.
DC are presently seventh in the points table, having won just two of their five matches. They have lost against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Gujarat Titans (GT). DC, on the other hand, defeated both the five-time champion Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
DC will now face the Punjab Kings in their next IPL group stage encounter. The match will take held on April 20 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium (Wednesday). Unfortunately for Capital supporters, star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh failed his Covid-19 test and will therefore be unavailable.
Considering these points, let’s talk about the best Delhi Capitals playing XI to face the Punjab Kings.
David Warner and Prithvi Shaw to continue opening the innings
After a poor performance in his first round, Australian opener David Warner was in fine form in his last two matches. While the left-handed batter hit 66 runs against RCB, he also smashed 61 off 45 balls against KKR. Warner will also try to maintain his strong performance against PBKS.
Prithvi Shaw, like Warner, has maintained a high level of communication. The right-handed hitter has provided his team with some spectacular starts this season and will try to replicate his batting exploits against the Punjab Kings. The 22-year-old has already amassed two half-centuries during the event.
Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell and Lalit Yadav solidify the middle order
Sarfaraz Khan struck an impressive 36 off 28 balls against LSG but was not given the opportunity to bat in DC’s subsequent match against KKR and was then dropped for their last match against RCB. The 24-year-old is a powerhouse and is anticipated to return to the Capitals lineup for their upcoming encounter against PBKS.
Rishabh Pant, the skipper, has been among the runs in the IPL 2022. However, the left-handed batter has yet to demonstrate his true potential in this season. Pant scored 34 runs off 17 balls against the Red Army, but it was not enough to get his team over the line. The skipper will try to increase his role with the bat and contribute to his team’s victory.
Except for his match-winning 48* against Mumbai Indians in the first match, Lalit Yadav has failed to impress, scoring only 75 runs in five matches. The 25-year-old is in desperate need of runs, otherwise he risks being replaced by another excellent batter warming the bench for DC.
Due to Mitchell Marsh’s impending absence from the game against PBKS, West Indies all-rounder Rovman Powell is expected to be given another opportunity to demonstrate his bat-hitting ability. Powell will be looking to make an impact with the bat in DC’s upcoming encounter against the Punjab Kings.
Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur slot in as all-rounders
Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur have been two of Delhi’s standout performances thus far this season. The all-rounder pair put on a match-winning partnership against KKR, putting on an unbeaten 49-run stand for the sixth wicket. Similarly, in the recent match against RCB, both Shardul (17 off 9) and Axar (10* off 7) attempted but failed to pursue their team’s total.
Even though RCB amassed a mammoth 189 runs, both Axar and Shardul bowled four economical overs and took one wicket apiece. DC fans, on the other hand, have not seen the best of both talented players and will expect them to come out swinging in their upcoming encounter against PBKS.
Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, and Khaleel Ahmed form the bowling attack
Kuldeep Yadav, the spinner, has been in superb form in the IPL 2022. The chinaman was named Player of the Match for his outstanding effort against his previous side KKR, claiming 4/35 from four overs. The spinner will look to build on his recent success and earn a recall to the national team for the T20 World Cup later this year.
Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, both left-arm pacers, have performed admirably for DC thus far. They have taken some vital wickets for their franchise and have also performed well in the final overs. Khaleel and Mustafizur, on the other hand, were quite costly in their previous game and will be looking to improve their bowling performance against PBKS’s formidable batting line-up.
