As Shivam Dube misses to take David Miller’s catch, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo lose their calm

Chennai Super Kings’ nightmare run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 continued on Sunday, when they were defeated for the seventh time this season (April 17). This time, the table-toppers Gujarat Titans defeated them in a thrilling match. The game went down to the wire, with CSK looking in command for the majority of the time, but a David Miller special meant the Ravindra Jadeja-led side missed out on their second win of the season.

Meanwhile, the game’s conclusion could have been different if Shivam Dube hadn’t made a bad decision while fielding. Dwayne Bravo was pitching against Miller in the 17th over of GT’s innings. The southpaw attempted to blast a slower delivery over the boundary ropes, but the connection was poor, and the ball sailed to deep mid-wicket, where Dube was positioned.

Surprisingly, the all-rounder made no attempt to collect the ball since he appeared to be obstructed by the lighting. The other CSK fielders were enraged by the same thing. While Bravo was clearly dissatisfied, skipper Jadeja was enraged by Dube’s efforts. The veteran all-rounder even removed his cap and was going to hurl it on the ground before restraining his emotions.

That blunder proved costly for CSK, as Miller smashed an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls as GT crossed the line on the game’s final ball, winning by three wickets. In addition to Miller, stand-in Titans skipper Rashid Khan hit a useful 40 off 21 balls to help his team win.

With this victory, the Ahmedabad-based squad has secured first place in the points table, and only a stunning turnaround can now deny them a playoff spot. CSK, on the other hand, is in last place in the team standings, despite being the defending champions. In terms of the club’s setback, Jadeja believes his team did well to produce 169/5 while batting first, but the Miller mayhem was too much for GT.
