Rohit Sharma has failed to utilise his India captaincy to bolster his confidence in the IPL
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan believes Rohit Sharma has lost touch with the bat in the IPL 2022 after being named captain of the national team across all formats. The Mumbai Indians, coached by Sharma, have lost six consecutive games in the competition and have yet to open their account.
MI is at the very bottom of the points rankings. Rohit Sharma, the team’s opener and skipper, has struggled with the bat this year, scoring only 114 runs in six games. His average has dropped to 19.00, and as a result, greater pressure has been placed on him.
Sharma’s performance, according to Vaughan, has suffered since he was chosen India’s all-format captain. “Rohit Sharma is a problem. He hasn’t really done that (demonstrating going upwards) since he took the Indian position, but he has done a little amount of that (demonstrating going down). It’s a concern for me that Rohit hasn’t used his India captaincy as a confidence boost for his game to truly take off,” he remarked.
There have been other occasions where Mumbai began poorly yet advanced to the playoffs. They won the championship despite losing the first four matches in 2015. However, Vaughan believes that it will be difficult for MI to make a comeback this year.
To shed light on the team’s problems, the 47-year-old stated that Mumbai let go of many good players this season, and that the senior and experienced players have also failed to produce this season.
