IPL 2022 – 3 players who have completely transformed since the 2021 season

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is recognised as a breeding ground for unique players that eventually make their national teams. It also provides an opportunity for out-of-favor players to establish themselves and increase their chances of being recalled to the national team. Although the 15th season of the glamorous T20 league is still in its early stages, there has been no shortage of outstanding individual performances.

Several of the players who struggled in 2021 have already made headlines this season with their match-winning efforts, whether with the bat or the ball. In this piece, we’ll look at three players that struggled in the IPL 2021 season but are thriving this season.

Number 3. Shimron Hetmyer

The hard-hitting batsman has made an immediate impact with his new side, the Rajasthan Royals. The southpaw has scored 168 runs in just four innings with the Royals, with an 84.00 batting average. He has been dismissed twice thus far, and both of his dismissals came at pivotal moments in the match. Although the Rajasthan Royals do not have a pure finisher in their ranks, Shimron Hetymer has stepped into that role despite coming in at No.5.

The West Indian batsman smashed 59 runs off only 36 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, assisting Rajasthan in posting a decent total. Hetymer’s willow’s late flurry of runs helped his side secure a tight victory and restore their top-of-the-table status. This is the youngster’s fourth season in the IPL, and he has undoubtedly made his mark on the big stage.

The left-handed hitter scored 242 runs in 14 innings against the Delhi Capitals previous season. In 2020, he batted 185 times for a mere 23.12 average. The West Indian made his IPL debut in 2019 with Royal Challengers Bangalore, appearing in five games and accumulating 90 runs. Given his previous failures in the IPL, this season has been a significant improvement thus far.

Number 2. Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar had an unremarkable season in 2021 after a few strong seasons with the Mumbai Indians. Although he took 13 wickets previous season, he had little influence due to his inability to take wickets during crucial stages of the game. Additionally, Chahar was dropped from the starting XI near the conclusion of the 2021 season to make room for Jayant Yadav.

In the new season, the young spinner relocated to Punjab. Rahul Chahar, the Punjab Kings’ top spinner, has has put up some outstanding performances thus far. The leg-spinner has seven scalps in four matches, averaging 14.43 per match. What’s more striking about the young spinner is his economy with the ball, surrendering an average of slightly under 6.31 runs per over.

He took three wickets against Chennai Super Kings in his four-over session, surrendering only 25 runs. Additionally, he has batted in the lower order, scoring an unbeaten 22 against Gujarat Titans in their most recent match. With the T20 World Cup scheduled for Australia this year, Rahul Chahar will want to build on his recent success and make a solid case for inclusion.

Number 1. Dinesh Karthik

If there is one name that has risen to prominence in the first two weeks of the IPL 2022, it has to be “Dinesh Karthik.” With the moment, the seasoned Indian wicketkeeper batsman is unbeatable, having scored 97 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 210.86. Surprisingly, Karthik has been undefeated thus far in the competition and has just been in great form.

He smashed 44 runs off only 23 balls against the Rajasthan Royals to propel his side to victory. What drew attention was the 36-year-conservative old’s approach to acquiring the runs. With someone like Dinesh Karthik in the lower-middle order, players like Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Virat Kohli can play their natural game.

He scored just 223 runs in 17 appearances last season at an average of 22.30. There were also suggestions for him to be dropped from the Kolkata Knight Riders’ playing XI following his decision to relinquish the captaincy to Eoin Morgan. Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, has defied his detractors this season and will seek to maintain his match-winning batting efforts as RCB chase their maiden IPL crown.
