Trent Boult awarded Twenty20 International player of the year
Trent Boult and Sophie Devine take home major awards on Day 1 of the New Zealand Cricket Awards, thanks to their remarkable performance in national colours. The former was voted Men’s T20I player of the year following his outstanding performance in last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. Boult grabbed 13 wickets in the event and was instrumental in his side reaching the finals.
He even claimed figures of 2/18 in Australia’s last match, in which the Men in Yellow chased 173 in 18.5 overs. Meanwhile, White Ferns skipper Sophie Devine received the women’s equivalent accolade. Since September 2021, the dasher has scored 118 runs at 29.50 with a strike rate of 113.46 and a highest score of 50 versus England.
Meanwhile, these rewards will be delivered electronically over a three-day period. While Melie Kerr and Michael Bracewell were awarded Super Smash players of the year, Ross Taylor’s last wicket against Bangladesh was chosen the summer’s fan highlight.
Meanwhile, Boult, who is presently playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, acknowledged his joy upon receiving the prestigious award. “It means a lot,” the left-arm bowler said in a video released on social media by New Zealand Cricket.
Meanwhile, on Day 2, which takes place on Wednesday (April 13), players are recognised for their outstanding performances in the First-Class and domestic circuits. Men’s and women’s one-day international players of the year, as well as the umpire of the year, will also be announced. The event will continue on Thursday with the announcement of the men’s and women’s domestic players of the year, as well as the Test player of the year.
