Ruturaj Gaikwad is advised by Brad Hogg not to consider his future with Team India
Chennai Super Kings are having a difficult time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, and their opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad is no exception. The right-handed hitter had a breakout season in 2021, scoring 635 runs and clinching the Orange Cap. However, the tables have reversed as Gaikwad continues to suffer defeat after defeat.
He has registered scores of 0, 1, 1 and 16 thus far this season, as the reigning champs have lost their first four games. Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg believes Gaikwad is anxious about playing for the Indian squad, which has been his nemesis this season. As a result, Hogg remarked that the 25-year-old should concentrate on doing well for CSK rather than on his future.
Notably, Gaikwad’s performances last season earned him his first appearance for Team India. He appeared in three Twenty20 Internationals and scored 39 runs. Although he did not receive consistent playing time in the XI, he was retained in the squad for several white-ball series. Given his poor results, he is unlikely to be included in India’s forthcoming white-ball assignments. As a result, the child must buckle up.
Meanwhile, Hogg provided an explanation for CSK’s troubles, noting that the side has been abysmal in every category. “Quite simply, they (CSK) do not bat, bowl, or field well. They are outmatched in all three categories. We begin at the very top — Ruturaj Gaikwad. At the moment, he is struggling on the bouncer wickets up here in Mumbai,” the former KKR spinner explained.
