IPL 2022 – 3 BIG reasons why the Royal Challengers Bangalore can win the IPL title this year

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are one of the most recognisable franchises in IPL history, owing to the kind of cricket they play and the fan loyalty they have. However, throughout the 14-year history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), they have not won a single trophy. Despite having some of the top T20 players in their roster over the years, they have only gone close to winning the title once, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the summit battle in 2016.

RCB, on the other hand, would like to rewrite history in their pursuit of the IPL crown in 2022. They did an excellent job at the IPL 2022 super auction, acquiring several top international cricketers in addition to Indian talent. The Bangalore franchise is off to a strong start and will be hoping to end their trophy drought this season.

Here are 3 BIG reasons why the Royal Challengers Bangalore can win the IPL title this year –

Number 3. Deadly and high quality bowling attack

In comparison to the previous two seasons, RCB boasts a stronger bowling assault in IPL 2022. Young Akash Deep, along with Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj, has stood up to the plate. He has earned the management’s trust. The Bengali kid was sensational against the Mumbai Indians, producing figures of 1/20 from his four overs.

Additionally, they have international possibilities in David Willey and Josh Hazlewood. While Hazlewood has not yet been included to the roster, his inclusion will certainly strengthen this bowling assault. Last season, he was a key member of the Chennai Super Kings, taking 11 wickets in nine matches.

Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka has been tasked with leading the spin assault and has thus far performed admirably. He has already taken eight wickets at a rate of 15 in four games. They also have Shahbaz Ahmed’s left-arm spin in their arsenal.

Additionally, Faf du Plessis and Co. have the expertise of Siddharth Kaul, Jason Behrendroff, and Karn Sharma on hand to step in if needed.

Number 2. Availability of a reliable finisher

RCB have depended on a variety of players throughout the years to finish matches convincingly. However, they lacked a consistent finisher. Dinesh Karthik is an accomplished finisher who has a wealth of experience and has batted in similar circumstances several times. His exploits against Bangladesh in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy finals are still vivid in his memory.

Karthik, 36, has already justified his inclusion with a handful of brief appearances, notably at No.6 and 7. The veteran Tamil Nadu cricketer has 97 runs at a strike rate of 210.86 in four games and is yet to be dismissed in the IPL 2022. His unbeaten 44 off 23 balls against Rajasthan Royals steered RCB to a spectacular victory from a precarious situation. Karthik took calculated chances and tasked his bowlers with the task of chasing down 170 runs with five balls remaining.

If he can continue this kind of consistency throughout the IPL in 2022, it would be a huge help for the Royal Challengers as they hunt their first title.

Number 1. A new captain who has won multiple IPLs in the past

The Royal Challengers Bangalore management announced the appointment of Faf Du Plessis as their new captain ahead of the league’s 15th edition. The job became available after Virat Kohli stepped down following the IPL 2021 season. The former South Africa captain captained his side to several victories and is regarded as one of the greatest captains in Proteas history. He captained his team in 37 Twenty20 Internationals, winning 23 of them.

Additionally, Du Plessis seen MS Dhoni’s performance up close during his tenure with the Chennai Super Kings. He has undoubtedly picked up a few tips from the former Indian captain, which will prove useful this season. Faf du Plessis is anticipated to bring new ideas to the table due to his extensive expertise.

The 37-year-old cricketer has been aggressive thus far with his ideas, guiding RCB to three victories in four games.
