IPL 2022 – What can the Mumbai Indians do to win the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore

Mumbai Indians (MI) were defeated by five wickets in their third IPL 2022 encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to a bowling letdown. Their bowlers were unable to defend a respectable 162 run total. The bowling team conceded 73 runs in the final eight overs, while Daniel Sams conceded 50 runs while taking a wicket in three overs.

Their batting squad, on the other hand, was in great form, with Suryakumar Yadav getting 52 runs off 36 balls and rookie Dewald Brevis producing a blazing 29 runs off 19 balls. Tilak Varma also contributed 38 runs. Meanwhile, skipper and opener Rohit Sharma has again again failed to produce.

Daniel Sams’ dismal bowling performance and Basil Thampi’s and the other bowlers’ lack of discipline were key reasons in KKR’s victory against MI, who were in control until the 15th over. The squad may make significant adjustments to their lineup and tactics for their fourth match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 9.

Here are some changes that we feel, can change Mumbai Indians’ fortunes in the tournament starting with the game against the RCB.

Number 1. Replace Basil Thampi with Jaydev Unadkat

Basil Thampi was outstanding in the Mumbai Indians’ season-opening match against the Delhi Capitals (DC). However, he gave up 26 runs in one over in the second game. The disadvantage of having Basil Thampi on hand is that he may be rather pricey on his off days.

Jaydev Unadkat has made major strides in his career. During the previous edition, he demonstrated his abilities with the new ball. He may always bowl his whole four overs early on and leave the final few overs to the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills.

Thus, the Mumbai Indians may bring in Jayadev Unadkat in lieu of Basil Thampi, since he may provide a significant boost to their bowling attack, which is currently suffering.

Number 2. Send Suryakumar Yadav to open with Ishan Kishan

Although skipper Rohit Sharma has been an exceptional opener for both the Mumbai Indians and the Indian cricket team, he is now out of form and has failed to open in all three matches thus far.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav was unavailable for the first two matches, but he produced a scorching 50 in his debut against the KKR, demonstrating that he is in fantastic form and is well suited to begin the innings with Ishan Kishan.

As a result, Suryakumar Yadav may begin the innings alongside Ishan Kishan in lieu of Rohit Sharma, while the MI skipper bats at three to buy himself some time to find his touch.

Number 3. Bring in Fabian Allen in place of out of favour Daniel Sams

Daniel Sams has not lived up to the Mumbai Indians’ expectations thus far in the campaign. His last over in their encounter against the Delhi Capitals (DC) swung the contest’s outcome. Additionally, he scored 57 runs in his four overs. Sams conceded 32 runs in his four overs against the Rajasthan-based team, without picking up a wicket. He was equally unimpressive with the bat in hand.

Fabian Allen, on the other hand, may be a nice utility selection. Additionally, Mumbai’s XI lacks a spinner other than Murugan Ashwin, who may fill that void effectively as a quality spinner capable of taking key wickets. Finally, but certainly not least, Allen is capable of hitting the ball a tremendous distance.

Since a result, Fabian Allen may make his MI debut in lieu of Daniel Sams, as he will give good assistance on both sides of the ball. He is also an outstanding fielder.

Whatever the case, Rohit Sharma has to pull of a tactical masterclass today, and help his team to start winning games. If they fail to win this match, then the situation will become very dire for the 5-time championships.
