IPL 2022 – Top 3 Performing teams of the second week of the tournament

The IPL has concluded its second week of fixtures and the form of all the franchises is now clear for all to see. Some of the teams who struggled in the first week, stepped up big time in the second week, while there are still a few teams who have struggled through both weeks and need to desperately turn the corner from the third week onwards.

In this article, we will be talking about the three teams who have absolutely dominated and made the most of the second week fixtures of the ongoing IPL 2022 tournament.


Number 3. Gujarat Titans

The team, which has seasoned international players who have demonstrated success in the T20 format, has opened the 2022 season with three victories in three league matches. They appeared in two matches during week two of the competition.

They scored a total of 171 in their league opener against DC, with Shubman Gill contributing the most with 84. Later in the innings, Ferguson took four wickets and Shami returned with two dismissals to help the side to a 14-run victory.

The team’s bowling performance against PBKS in the second league game was mediocre, conceding 190 runs. The batting team then rallied behind Gill’s 96 and Rahul Tweatia’s heroics to chase down the target on the last ball of the contest.


Number 2. Kolkata Knight Riders

After two weeks, the KKR squad emerged as the tournament’s best, outperforming GT and LSG in terms of net run rate. After a humiliating loss to RCB, they have learnt valuable lessons and have won their last two matches.

They met the Mumbai Indians in week two. Although their bowling efforts were excellent till the 15th over, they nevertheless surrendered runs in the final overs, allowing the opposition to score a total of 161 runs. The team’s wicket-takers were Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy.

KKR responded with a difficult start, but Venkatesh Iyer’s innings helped them regain control. After Russell was dismissed in the 14th over, Pat Cummins walked to the crease and hammered 56 off 15 balls to assist the side in clinching their third victory of the season.


Number 1. Lucknow Super Giants

Following a setback against GT in their opening league encounter, the LSG squad has made an incredible return in the competition, winning their past three league matches. They shown the ability to win matches whether they batted first or chased down the totals.

They met SRH in the first encounter of week Two and amassed 169 runs, including half-centuries from KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda. Avesh Khan, Jason Holder, and Krunal Pandya all contributed well to the team’s 12 run victory.

LSG held the Delhi Capitals (DC) to 149 in their previous league encounter, with Ravi Bishoi and Gowtham bowling well. Quinton de Kock hit 80 off 52 balls in the second innings, and a calm finish from Pandya and Badoni clinched the win for the squad.

The teams mentioned above have managed to gain the necessary momentum, and will be difficult to beat as the players are settling in and finding form.
