IPL 2022 – Predicted RCB lineup to face the Mumbai Indians

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2022’s 18th game. The Red Army has been vying for the IPL title since the tournament’s start in 2008, but has been unsuccessful thus far. RCB is back in the search for a finals spot this year, with the same old aim of lifting the trophy.

RCB has made a fantastic start under new leader Faf du Plessis. The Red Army has won two of its three matches thus far. RCB were defeated by Punjab Kings by a margin of five wickets in their opening match. The squad was unable to defend a 206-run target, with PBKS prevailing by one run.

They produced a tremendous comeback in their last two encounters, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals respectively. The side will face the five-time champions in their next encounter and will seek to make it three wins in a row.

In this article, we are going to walk you through the lineup that we think will be able to beat the Mumbai Indians.

Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat come in as openers

Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat have performed admirably for their team. In their previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals, the pair built a vital partnership of 50+ runs. Du Plessis struck an amazing 88 off 57 balls on his Red Army debut. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old batted well, scoring 21 runs off 20 balls.

The starting pair, on the other hand, struggled in their second game against Kolkata Knight Riders. Both Du Plessis and Rawat will be tasked with the responsibility of ensuring their side gets off to a strong start in their forthcoming encounter against the five-time champion Mumbai Indians. It would be fascinating to see how the openers do against Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, and Murugan Ashwin.

Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik solidify the middle order

The Red Army’s fourth match of the season is scheduled to feature standout hitter Glenn Maxwell. The big guy is poised to go into the playing XI in place of West Indies player Shefane Rutherford. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will continue to bat at number three, the position he has occupied in the middle for an extended period of time and which suits him the best.

Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman, has been in spectacular form thus far in the competition. Karthik has excelled with scores of (32 off 14 balls), (14 off 7 balls), and 44 runs in RCB’s previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals. With the acquisition of Maxwell, RCB’s middle order appears to be quite powerful, and the hitters will be looking to provide crucial runs in the forthcoming match.

Wanindu Hasaranga, Shahbaz Ahmed and David Willey offer versatility as all-rounders

After going for broke in the opening round, Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga made a remarkable recovery in his subsequent two encounters. The 24-year-old took four wickets and conceded only 20 runs in four overs against KKR. In the last game, the leg-spinner claimed a vital wicket of skipper Sanju Samson and is set to keep his spot.

Shahbaz Ahmed, a left-handed hitter, has also been instrumental in his team’s success thus far in the competition. He contributed a crucial inning of 27 in just 20 balls against KKR and was part of a match-winning combination with Karthik against RR in the previous encounter. The batsman smashed four fours and three massive sixes in just 26 balls.

David Willey, England’s left-arm pacer, has been quietly doing his job for the Red Army. The 32-year-old has taken just one wicket thus far, but he has bowled with terrific control and has kept his team’s run rate under control. Willey is also set to keep his place in the RCB starting XI.

Harshal Patel, Akash Deep and Mohammad Siraj form the bowling attack

Harshal Patel, the Purple Cap holder from the previous season, has been as impressive in IPL 2022. With the exception of the first game against PBKS, Harshal has been a cost-effective player for the Red Army. The right-arm pacer has been tasked with bowling death overs for the Red Army and has performed admirably thus far.

As with Harshal, Mohammed Siraj has bowled superbly with the new ball and kept the batsmen quiet, while also picking up a couple key wickets for his team. However, the 28-year-old was costly against RR and will want to improve against the five-time champions. Akash Deep, the pacer who has four wickets in three games, is also anticipated to be retained in the playing XI.

All in all ,this is what the RCB squad to face Mumbai Indians looks like –

Wicket Keeper – Dinesh Karthik

Batters – FAF du Plessis (c), Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat

All-Rounders – Wanindu Hasaranga, Shahbaz Ahmed, David Willey
